Step by step instructions on how to create a custom linkedin url

First, log into your LinkedIn account using your email and password.

Navigate to your profile by clicking on your profile picture or the “Me” icon at the top of your LinkedIn homepage.

On your profile page, you’ll see a dashboard section below your profile photo and headline. On the right-hand side of the dashboard, click on “Edit public profile & URL.”

On the new page that appears, look to the right side of the screen. You should see a section labeled “Edit public profile URL.” Click on the “Edit” icon next to your current URL.

A text box will appear that allows you to edit the last part of your URL. LinkedIn will usually suggest a URL based on your name, but you can change it as long as the new URL is:

  • Between 5 and 30 characters.
  • Free of spaces, special characters, or symbols.
  • Unique to you (it hasn’t already been claimed by another LinkedIn user).

After you’ve entered your desired custom URL, click the “Save” button.

Finally, it’s a good idea to test the URL to make sure it directs people to your LinkedIn profile as expected. Copy the new URL and paste it into a new browser tab to ensure it works.

  • You can change your custom URL up to five times within a six-month period. After that, you’ll have to wait for the six-month window to reset.
  • Once you change your URL, the old URL will not redirect to your new one, so be sure to update any links you’ve shared previously.

By creating a custom LinkedIn URL, you’re taking an important step to strengthen your personal brand. It makes your profile easier to remember and share, and it adds a level of professionalism that can make you stand out in a crowded job market.
